When I was DC and trying to figure out what to post about, I had originally decided to whine, talk about the good times and the bad times, after all this is my blog. But at the airport I had a eye opening, and I would say, life changing experience. So there is absolutely no way I could even remotely whine, be a grouch, or moan about anything. So here is the story of my airport experience....
First I was in the Reagan International Airport in DC waiting to catch my plane and there was this man and his family next to me and he was sitting in a wheelchair. On the back of his wheelchair it was embroidered Purple Heart with one of the military branches emblem on it. Of course I eased drop on everything he was talking about, he was on his way home from the hospital after being injured at war. He lost both legs. He boards his plane and he is all I can think about. Then it is time for me to board my plane and in the very front is a Marine that is on his way home and he was also injured in war and lost one of his leg. This Marine was very young, I would say 20 or 21. By now my brain is just going 90 to nothing and back. All I can think about is what these soldiers are going through and have been through. Once I sit, I just start crying. (On a side note, I see about the war on TV and in my mind I know it is going on but never in my life have I experienced a soldier getting hurt, I have just never seen or just ever had a realization about our war.) Alright to finish my story, then I arrive at the Dallas airport (and if you have ever been there this airport is HUGE and my plane landed at terminal C and I had to get to terminal B, which I have to take a tram to get to) once I arrived at terminal B I go down the escalator and there are about 50-60 soldiers waiting around the terminal next to me. It is all decorated and as I was grabbing something to eat I started talking to one of the soldiers at a table next to me and I asked her what they were all doing. She told me that they were deploying, they had one stop to fuel before going to war, that is about all I got out of her for the people came over saying it was time for them to load up. They were getting orders, from how to carry there bag on the plane to what the flight was going to be like for them. After I went back and sat to wait in my very delayed plane, I just come to realize A LOT. I cannot even begin to describe anything in words. But then to top it off, two young men were sitting in front of me on my plane from Dallas to Little Rock and they are coming home for there 15 day rest from war. I don't think I have cried so much in one day in a very long time. And it sucks that all I can say is THANK YOU, they deserve so much more. I told those soldiers THANK YOU, a hundred times I swear and that I appreciate everything that they do. Here are a couple of pictures that I took at the Dallas Airport of the soldiers that are deploying...
